PPF vs Ceramic Coating: What Is the Difference?

Paint protection film and ceramic coating do different jobs. Here’s how to decide what your vehicle needs.

Protection is not one-size-fits-all

Paint protection film (PPF) and ceramic coatings are sometimes compared as if they do the same thing. In practice, they serve different purposes and can complement one another.

What does PPF do?

PPF is a physical transparent film applied to selected painted panels. It can help resist light abrasion and reduce damage from everyday stone-chip impacts, especially on vulnerable front-facing areas. Coverage and film properties vary.

What does ceramic coating do?

A ceramic coating is a thin applied layer often chosen for water behaviour, gloss and easier cleaning. It is not a physical stone-chip barrier and will not make the paint scratch-proof.

Which should you choose?

For a regularly driven car where impact protection is the priority, discuss PPF coverage. If your main goal is to make routine cleaning more manageable and enhance the finish, ask about ceramic coating and surface preparation. Some owners choose both after discussing compatibility and care.

Ask before booking

Vehicle use, paint condition and the areas most exposed to wear should guide your decision. AHL Wrapping can talk through the options for your car.
